Built in 1981, the Gary F. Beringause Building houses the Georgia Tech Security and Police department. It sits on the corner of Hemphill Avenue and Ferst Drive and is easily recognizable from the many police cars parked in its parking lot.
Sergeant Gary F. Beringause served the Georgia Tech community for 14 years. Beringause and Jim Luck, assistant athletic director at Georgia Tech and the school`s winningest baseball coach, were killed when their car was hit by a truck in east Georgia. The two had attended Tech`s football practices in Athens and were returning to Commerce, Georgia, where the team was staying before Saturday`s Georgia-Georgia Tech game. Though the game ended in a loss for Georgia Tech (31-24), the team dedicated the game to Beringause and Luck.
