Robert H. Ferst

Robert Harold Ferst comes from a family of Georgia Tech alums and it can easily be said that Robert lived up to the family name. Robert was a 1938 Mechanical Engineering grad who went on to own Scripto Inc., one of the largest manufacturers of ballpoint pens.

His dedication to Tech does not end there, Ferst loved giving back to Tech. He was the chairman of the M&H Ferst Foundation, which supported many Tech programs including the annual Monie A. Ferst Research Award and Sigma Xi, the scientific research society. He was also a trustee of the Georgia Tech Research Institute, served on the executive committee of the Joint Fund, and was president of the Center for Rehabilitation Technology. Ferst also served as treasurer of the Georgia Tech Foundation for more than 20 years.

His most prestigious donation could be said to have come In 1981, when Mr. Ferst established a scholarship fund that provided the basis for the President Scholars Program. In recognition of his service, Mr. Ferst was given the Joseph M. Pettit Alumni Distinguished Service Award in 1987.
